History of the Early Settlement and Progress of Cumberland County By L. Q. C. Elmer |
Lucius Quintus Cinncinatus Elmer's History of the Early Settlement and Progress of Cumberland County, New Jersey; and of the The Currency of this and the Adjoining Colonies, is an important early work of New Jersey local history. Published in 1869, it is based on a series of newspaper articles Elmer has written previously. Because of this origin, the treatment of the matertial is more topical than strictly chronological. In some books this might be a problem but Elmer's research and prose are of such good quality that even the dullest reader should come away with some good sense of Cumberland County's early history.
This book was OCR'ed and has been put into html with a reasonable amount of care. Nevertheless, some few glitches probably remain. They will be attended to eventually. For now, perhaps it is best to consider this work to have been but lightly edited.
